If you’re part of the growing number of people who enjoy audiobooks, or you want to give audiobooks a try, you’ll want to check out Chirp. This new place to get audiobooks was launched in May this year by the owners of BookBub, the service that shows you deals on ebooks.
The popularity of audiobooks continues to grow at an impressive pace. According to Forbes, sales of audiobooks increased by more than 24% in 2018 over the previous year. And in April 2019, downloads of audiobooks increased by 28.7% over April 2018. See, Forbes, E-Book Revenues Decreased In April While Audio Continued Its Strong Streak
While audiobooks are gaining in popularity, they do tend to be more expensive than print books or ebooks. So getting a discount on audiobooks can make them much more affordable. Check out Chirp Blog, Why Are Audiobooks So Expensive?
Chirp is a website that offers a selection of audiobooks at low prices. Audiobooks on Chirp are mostly discounted from 60-90% off the publishers’ listed price. Sample Chirp prices range from $0.99 to $5.99, but these discounts are only available for a limited time.
Chirp’s selection of audiobooks changes daily.
Like BookBub, Chirp has great deals. But unlike BookBub, Chirp sells audiobooks and sells them directly. In fact, that’s all that Chirp does — it sells audiobooks at deeply discounted prices off of the list price.
Chirp has no subscription fees or membership fees. If you see a book you want to get, you can buy it to add it to your Chirp Library. After a book is added to your Library, you can listen to it at any time, the audiobook doesn’t expire even when the book is no longer offered for sale at Chirp.
You can sign up to join Chirp’s email list and get daily or weekly notices about new audiobook deals offered by Chirp. You can get notices of all new audiobooks on sale at Chirp or you can set your genre preferences to get customized email notices of new audiobooks at Chirp.
Genres that are available at Chirp include mysteries and thrillers, romance, science fiction and fantasy, classics, general fiction, nonfiction, kids and young adult, Christian fiction and non-fiction, and editors’ picks.
Don’t want more emails in your inbox? You don’t have to sign up for email notices to get deals at Chirp.
You can search the Chirp website to find audiobooks by genre and sort your results by:
- Most Recent
- Expiring Soon
- Price (Low to High)
- Price (High to Low)
Each book listing shows you the full price, discounted price, genre, information about the book and when the offer expires. You can also listen to a sample of the book to “try before you buy.”
Chirp is able to offer inexpensive audiobooks by working with publishers and authors who want to temporarily promote their audiobooks. From Chirp: “Chirp works with authors and publishers who are looking to promote their audiobooks to listeners just like you! These publishers and authors temporarily discount their audiobooks for us to feature on our website and share in our daily email. Our favorite thing about Chirp is that it’s a win-win for everyone involved: You get the most bang for your audiobook-buck, and authors get to find new fans!”
How to Listen to Chirp Audiobooks

You can either stream audiobooks from Chirp or download them to your device for listening when you’re not connected to the Internet.

What Chirp Doesn’t Have
On a single day, Chirp doesn’t have thousands of audiobooks or even hundreds. Think dozens. But you should be able to find some enjoyable listens across a variety of genres.
Over time you can add Chirp audiobooks to your Library and save a lot of money over paying full price. As you add to your collection, your Library will grow so you can become immersed in books while you do your daily commute, walk the dog, do the dishes, fold laundry, and/or go on a road trip with friends and family.
