You’ll Be Mad for Mad Lips!

Apps that are crowd-pleasers are treasures. Mad Lips is one of those apps.

If you’re having a family get-together for the holidays or want to send a funny video to a friend far away, check out Mad Lips. This is about the most fun you can have with an app!

The concept is simple. Take a photo and make it talk. Affective Apps, the developer of Mad Lips, took this simple concept and created an artful app that offers multitudinous options while keeping the app easy to use.

Does your friend have a picture of her beloved pet on Facebook? Take that photo and have that pet sing “Happy Birthday” to his owner! Do you have a friend with a crush on Justin Bieber? Grab his photo (if you can find one somewhere on the internet) and make a video of him professing his undying love for your friend! Do you have an adorable baby and are wondering what’s on her mind? Use Mad Lips to give the baby her first words!

The app guides you easily through the process of making your photos talk. You start off by choosing a photo, then resize it by pinching or zooming. Mad Lips generously provides you with a few photos for inspiration, you could use your own photos, download photos from the web or use Facebook profile pictures of your friends.

Next you record a video of yourself speaking a message. You could sing a song, tell a joke or propose marriage. Stuck for something to say? Mad Lips suggests some inspiring funny messages (I won’t spoil the fun, you should check these out for yourself!)

When you are done recording, crop the video by moving a circle over your mouth. The app makes this very easy by allowing you to pinch and zoom using your fingers or slider bars. Place the mouth image over the picture and adjust the lips. You have all sorts of options, such as rotating the lips, to make sure the video is a perfect fit.

After you’re satisfied with the video, you can save it and share it with friends via email, Facebook or YouTube. Here is an example of one I created using Mad Lips:

You can see more examples of videos I created using Mad Lips at The Wonder of Tech You Tube Channel here.

Mad Lips is free, that’s right, free, in the iTunes App Store here. You can use this app on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad 2. (The original iPad can’t shoot video. You can still use the app, but it’s a little more complicated.)

So if grumpy Uncle Henry could use some cheering up this holiday season, try using Mad Lips to give him a giggle!

Do you like fun apps like this? What uses can you imagine for Mad Lips? Let us know in the Comments section below!

Hi Harleena, Thank you for your kind words. I love learning about great tech. But what’s even more fun is sharing my discoveries with others. The developer contacted me about this app. He’s very dedicated to making this app a great experience for its users. He just told me about another one of his apps that looks promising.

I hope you and your girls have a lot of fun with this app, Harleena! :-)

My kids are going to have a really good time with this app. Thanks a lot for sharing it.

I have seen similar services online, where we can add a picture and it will be added to many funny situations. But I’ve never seen an app like this :-)

Hi Jens, I don’t think there is another app like Mad Lips. Even if there were, it’s hard to imagine the app would be a) as easy to use, b) as packed with features, and c) free. I think your kids will absolutely love this one. You will probably enjoy it a lot too!

Carolyn, simply amazing! Can’t wait to share this app with my iPhone friends. They will love it.

It’s looking like when my contract is up in May, even though my BB still works, I will have to get an iPhone. All these apps are too tantalizing and compelling.

How do you find all of these? Do you receive notices from a gazillion places, scan, select, test & write? Carolyn, you are a Wonder of Tech.

mele Kalikimaka. Aloha. Janet

Hi Janet, Yes, you’re right, this app is a crowd pleaser. I love to share quality apps, especially ones that are free! This app I found through the developer who contacted me and asked me to review it.

I’m excited to hear you will be getting an iPhone when your contract is up in May, Janet. I have a feeling you’re going to love its many features, including FaceTime. Keep us posted!

Merry Christmas, Janet!

Hi Carolyn,
This app is funny :-) .
I can see some use of it. For e.g. a boss giving a dressing down to employee in a funny way . ( probably it can get someone fired )
Or for mocking politicians. Why keep it just for kids ? :-)

Hi Ashvini, You’re right, no reason for kids to have all of the fun! This app could be quite the tool in business to break the ice and grab the attention of people in a meeting. What a great way to deliver a message!

I thought of using a politician in my sample video, but here in the US people are quite divided with the presidential election coming up next year. Best to use non-controversial subjects such as Mona Lisa and my dog! ;-)

Hello everyone -

I’m Michael from Affective Apps and I’m one of the developers of Mad Lips. I just wanted to reach out and personally thank each of you for taking the time to leave a comment. This has really made our holidays!

May each of your New Year’s be filled with new colors, new sounds, and a whole bunch of new laughs.

Thank you

Michael Dias December 28, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Hi Ashvini – I’m Michael, one of the developers of Mad Lips. I’ve got all kind of great Mad Lips stories for you about bosses and political satire but this one is my favorite. There is a certain company with a CEO possessed with a brilliant sense of humor and he uses Mad Lips to deliver his morning memos to his staff. Instead of an email with bullet points, its often a talking monkey or donkey passing out various tasks. Classic. And recently, Mad Lips rocketed up to the #2 chart position in Italy. Thanks to the debt crisis and political satire. Humor is always the best weapon.

Talk to you soon,

m-

Carolyn Nicander Mohr December 28, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Hi Michael, That’s a great story! I bet people remember his message much better because it was delivered by a talking animal, not a human.

Congratulations on your app being such a success in Italy. It must be cool to have such an internationally successful app! :-)
