Q. How do I delete a book from my Kindle? I am loving reading books on my Kindle! I’ve had it for three months and I’ve finished ten books. I don’t know why but I seem to read faster on my Kindle.
But I don’t want to keep the books on my Kindle that I’ve already. How do I delete them? And if I delete them are they gone forever? Thanks, love your blog!
A. Thank you very much, I’m so glad you love the blog. Yes, you can delete books from your Kindle (or Kindle apps on iPhone, Android, iPad, etc.) and they will remain in your Amazon account. Don’t delete them from your Amazon account though or they will be gone for good.
To delete a book from your Kindle, press the Home button which takes you to your list of books on your Kindle. Toggle down to the book you want to delete. Press the left side of the button and you will be prompted to confirm whether you want to remove the book from your device. Confirm that you do by pressing the middle of the button and move onto the next book. (Note: for the Kindle 2, move your white stick to the left to remove the book and press the stick to confirm.)
Don’t worry, just because you deleted the book doesn’t mean that it’s gone from your Amazon account. Go to www.amazon.com/myk on your computer and you will see that your book you just deleted is still in your account. You can upload the book to your Kindle again whenever you want to.
Q. I’m loving the apps you tell me about but my iPhone is getting kind of full. I’m up to five screens of apps! What’s the quickest way to get to an app on my iPhone without having to hunt through all five screens?
A. The quickest way to locate an app on your iPhone is to use Spotlight Search. You can access the Spotlight Search screen by:
- double clicking the home button to bring up the Spotlight Search screen.
- clicking the home button once to bring up the home screen, then swipe to the right to reveal the Spotlight Search screen.
- keep swiping to the right from any screen until you reach the Spotlight Search screen.
Tap in the search bar at the top of the Spotlight Search screen, which brings up the keyboard. Start typing the name of the app and a list of items will appear. When your desired app appears, click on the listing and that will open the app.
Using Spotlight Search is much quicker than hunting through your screens for your apps.
If you have recently used the app, double click the home button and a bottom toolbar will appear with icons of apps that are open on the phone. Press an icon to open the app. If you don’t see the icon, swipe to the left for the next row of apps that are open. Don’t forget to close any apps that you are not using! (See, Tech-Knowledgy: Facebook Etiquette, App Advice and More! for information on how to close apps on the iPhone).
If you find yourself using an app a lot, move it to your home screen. If you really use an app a lot, consider giving it a prime location by moving it to your bottom row (a/k/a Dock) so it appears on every screen.
Note that these suggestions will work for the iPad and iPod Touch as well.
Q. Can you record on a Roku? I would love to be able to record Netflix movies and watch them later.
A. Thanks for your question. I get this question a lot and while it would be great to record Netflix movies, unfortunately Roku doesn’t record. Further, you can’t record from a Roku either, so you shouldn’t worry about connecting your dvr to your Roku box. Netflix would probably lose a lot of members if everyone could just record Netflix movies to their Roku devices to watch later.
You can watch a lot of other media on Roku, such as Crackle, Hulu+, Amazon Instant Video, etc. but you can’t record movies from those sources either.
Here is a helpful discussion of the issue of recording from Roku devices from the Roku forum: Roku Forums
