Cyber Monday Essential Tools and Tips!

by on November 28, 2011 · 21 comments

If you’re still shopping for deals, Cyber Monday is the latest tradition for shoppers savoring savings. Post-Black Friday, retailers with excess inventory and buyers with items still on their shopping lists become a perfect match.

Where can you find the best deals on Cyber Monday?

Cybermonday.com is a website dedicated to Cyber Monday deals, complete with bargains from over 700 retailers. The site is run by Shop.org, the organization that coined the term “Cyber Monday”, and features hourly deals as well as a comparison shopping feature to make sure you’re getting the best deals.

CyberMonday2011.com by BradsDeals is specially designed to give you deals and coupons for your best discounts on Cyber Monday. You can sign up for email alerts for late-breaking deals.

Don’t forget to check out Amazon.com for their Cyber Monday Lightning Deals. These deals last just a short time, so it’s hit or miss whether you will find an item on your shopping list. But if you luck out and find a great deal, grab it before it’s gone!

If it’s an app you’re looking for, check out TGI Cyber Monday, a free app for deals on the go. This app lists over 5000 deals from 50 top retailers with the ability to shop from within the app. You can add items to a shopping list or share the deals with others with this app.

Android Market TGI Cyber Monday

Are you getting truly great deals?

Buying on Black Friday or Cyber Monday is no assurance you are getting a great deal.

Decide.com Shopping

If you’re shopping for electronics, check out decide.com, a website designed to calculate when is the optimal time for you to find the best deals. The site analyzes pricing patterns for major retailers to calculate when the prices might drop or increase. Like a crystal ball, Decide.com predicts the future to help you to time your electronics purchases for the best chance of savings. The site will also help you learn if there is a newer model of the device available, perhaps for a cheaper price. There’s no guarantee that decide.com will save you money, but the site claims a 77% accuracy rate in predicting price changes. Decide.com also has a free app in the iTunes App Store to help you with your buying decisions. Decide.com App

Warning: Whatever else you buy on sale, do not buy a computer or a tablet solely because of a low, low price. Specs matter. A lot. Many cheap products on the market will leave you regretting your decision long after you have forgotten how much you saved on your purchase. Invest in quality electronics. If you get a good deal on your device, fantastic. But if you buy a device that works well for you, you will be much more satisfied.

For example, if you find an Android tablet for $49, you may be thrilled. But when you get it home and find that apps crash, videos stutter and Wi-Fi connections drop constantly, the tablet won’t seem like such a bargain.

Such a Deal!

Deal or No Deal?

Remember also that not matter how great the deal seems, you should be careful when shopping online. Make sure to look for secure websites, as explained in How To Shop Online With Added Security.

Have you found fantastic Cyber Monday deals? Do you wish you could know when prices will drop? Do you invest in the best electronics you can afford? Let us know in the Comments section below!

Hi Carolyn, Thanks for the great online resources! I started my Cyber Monday shopping yesterday, and did get some good deals. I’ve bought three items now off the Amazon Lightning Deals, scored a great deal on boots for both my niece and myself, and have a basket of “stuff” at my favorite online clothing site which has 30-50% off! Can’t wait to try out the online resources to help me hunt down my last few items.

Feeling soooo tempted! But I’m resisting the urge to shop online. My resources are thin, and I’ve got a five kids hoping to go on vacation this winter! But I’m going to check out your links and live vicariously through the other shoppers scoring killer deals…

Hi Ruth, You’re wise to be prudent. No matter how good the deals are, it’s better to save than to spend. Your vacation memories should last much longer than anything you could buy on Cyber Monday. Where are you headed for your holiday?

Hey Carolyn,

Thanks for sharing this scoop. I do have a few things I need to get at Amazon so I’ll be sure to do that today. Of course their prices are pretty low anyway but hey, you just never know right!

You’re the best, thank you so much for always sharing the best deals with us.

Hi Adrienne, I hope you are able to find great deals on the items on your shopping list! As I’ve been surfing today (I haven’t bought anything yet), Invisible Hand hasn’t found prices any lower than Amazon’s though Best Buy seems to be matching them in price.

Enjoy your shopping! :-)

Hi Carolyn – Thanks for sharing these tips, i am still looking for a good deal on a GPS and a DSLR, nothing turned out great yet.

Amazon does have some good deals, but am staying away from it since it will be really hard to resist buying unwanted stuff just because the price seems great :-)

Hi Praveen, Make sure you download the Invisible Hand add-on so you know whether the price that is being offered online is the lowest. The good news is that electronics prices tend to drop. The bad news is that new models are frequently launched.

Try to resist temptation if you do visit Amazon. Their Lightning Deals create a sense of urgency which makes the sale prices seem all the more alluring! :-)

Carolyn, aloha. Thanks for all the tips. Actually, I don’t have all that much shopping to do and I have to admit that Amazon is my very favorite online store. Unless something is substantially lower (which has not happened yet), I buy from Amazon. For the few pennies difference, I like the assurance that comes from buying from Amazon.

Have to tell you that I do love playing with Invisible Hand and have delighted numerous people by introducing them to it. Thanks so much.

Best wishes for a fabulous week ahead. Until next time, aloha. Janet

Hi Janet, I agree, Amazon’s site has a lot to offer. Their prices tend to be lowest, free two-day shipping for Prime customers, and a fair return policy. But isn’t it great to see that pop up yellow banner from Invisible Hand telling you that Amazon’s price is the lowest? It’s the best of both worlds. :-)
